Can anyone suggest something to use to bring the fingerboards back to life so to speak. I heard you can use furniture polish, is this true??

You can usually find orange oil or lemon oil at the hardware shop among the furniture polishes. Either one of those works well and helps keep the wood from drying out.

I've used Formby's Lemon Oil on some really dried out wood with great results.

I use Howard's Feed-N-Wax which is a combination of orange oil, and bee's wax. Used to use on my turned bowls with satisfaction and works great on 'ukuleles.

Formby's is fairly common. You can find it in most Hardware Stores or Supermarkets.

I use that too. I've used it on a lot of fingerboards and it's great stuff. Brings dead ones back to life.

I used to get my "Howard's Feed-n-Wax" at Lowe's and Home Depot but my local hardware store also carries it for $6.99 a 16 oz. bottle.

I use the good ol' Formby's lemon oil...got it at Ace Hardware.
