I plan to use my flea a lot in my music classes, so I would like to get a strap to make it easier to tote around the room and also so I don't have to lay it down if I need to use my hands. My hubby is going to put a strap button on so I can use a guitar strap (not into the uke thongs). I want to find one that is really fun and something that the kids will like. It also needs to coordinate with my flea, which is blueberry! Any good places to look at online?

You might find a guitar strap a bit too much. Try one out first before shopping. If you want something a little more in-scale with your uke, I have liked this mandolin strap, and they are on sale right now!

Comes in several colors too. I have 2 of these and just bought a third. I don't have a Flea, but I could imagine a soprano uke could weigh about the same as a guitar strap (some of them are really heavy) and you might not be able to shorten it enough (depending on how high you play your uke).

I know you were looking for something fun, but you could add some charms to hang from your headstock instead.

Just a thought...

The mandolin strap seems more in keeping with the uke. Most guitar straps are a bit large.

Thanks for the link. I may get one.

I found this website after some googling. They have some neat designs and they all come in mandolin size.

Very cool straps!

I have made most of my own straps using printed web belts or grosgrain ribbon. Some of them are adjustable (which requires some plastic "hardware") and a couple are just right for me.

I use Neotech mandolin straps. They may be too space-age (and black) for you, though.

You already have a hole for the strap in your Flea, right? How about just looping a funky shoelace through that hole and be cool? I wouldn't be too demanding about a strap for a Flea, those things way about the same as the average African or European swallow, two birds the weight of which does not differ as much as is generally assumed.

Fluorescent yellow, anyone? Now, Flukes are stoopid for having no hole for da strap. Fortunately, all of these fellers stand on their butt if you tell them to. Good boy!

Unique Ukulele straps

I make and sell handmade uke straps etsy.com. They are the "sound hold hook" style straps and they come in some really unique fabrics and prints. This might be a good option for those who don't have a strap button on their ukes. Check them out at http://www.ukestarstraps.com...

I have a question: how did your husband install a strap button on a flea? I thought that because it's made of a type of plastic and has no block inside, that couldn't be done?

I'm getting a Fluke and wonder if I could get a strap button installed!
Thanks!

I would imagine that a hollow wall anchor from a hardware store might be a way of holding a strap button to a Flea/Fluke. Then again, the bottom would no longer be flat!

I don't care about its being able to stand up--I just would want to be able to hold it without dropping it. :p I won't know how that will be until I get it; but I know that I finally got comfortable with my Makala Dolphin when I got a strap button installed and a mandolin strap for it.

I am going to have to find someone who knows how to do this kind of work ("hollow wall anchor"? totally foreign language to me!) if it turns out I will need a strap.

Thanks!

does anybody know of a strap that actually fits in the strap loop behind the neck on the flea?

You can get away with running a shoelace or something about the same size through the little loop on the Flea, and tying that through the hole on whatever strap you decide on.

I think it is Bailey Straps.com. or something like that. Custom makes them YOUR size. Supposed to be a really nice guy. You can look at his and make one yourself if you can braid. I did.
