After catching a few videos on youtube and finding my way here Iím pretty stoked on picking up the uke. Iím looking to buy one online and Iím hoping you guys might have some opinions to help me in my selection.

I've done some reading and since I've played some guitar in the past a tenor might be an easier transition and it looks to be the most popular.

After surfing the web I've come up with 4 ukes that are within my price range (under $200):

1) Kala KA-ST Sitka Solid Sprucetop Tenor

2) Kala KA-T Mahogany Tenor

3) Makala Mahogany Tenor

4) Lanikai LU-21T Tenor

I read some on laminate vs. solid wood tops. Only one out of the few about I know if solid wood is the Kala Sprucetop. As far as ukes go, what does ďconstructionĒ imply?

Anyone out there have a recommendation on either these or another uke I should look into?

Thanks!

My first uke was a Kala, and I've been really happy with it. put some good strings on 'er and she sings.

I used the LU-21T,

I always wanted the spruce, probably next.

The ovation applause soprano is well worth considering. An awful lot of uke for the money. Make sure you get decent strings for it though, I use aquila nylguts on my applause.

If you can afford an ukulele with a solid top, you get it.
