I did a search and didn't find a post on this so ...
I am looking for software that will captire a short note and tell me the pitch.
Not for uke making a marimba out of yellowheart.

Transcribe! will do it. You need to record the sound and save it to your computer. It will then display a spectral analysis and match it up with known notes.

If you look hard enough you might find some freeware programs to do this too. They'll probably give you the frequency in Hz and you'll have to look up the note name yourself.

It is not free, but the deluxe version of Peterson StroboSoft has tap tuning capability. I use it to check the tap tone of my tops and body resonance. It has a graphic spectral analysis feature, which would help you tune for the harmonics of a marimba.
