First off, I have to thank Ahnko Honu for one of these. He edumacated me on what a Nalo uke is really. For those of you who don't know, Nalo ukes are made by Kanile'a Ukulele. Same quality, different label. Thanks Ahnko Honu!

Anyway, the one on the left is a Keli'i Koa Concert made in 2001. The one on the right is the Nalo Super Concert with Koa body, turtle shell binding around the body and fret board, and either spruce or sitka top.

I actually found both for sale on...........Craigslist!

A little story with the nalo. After Ahnko told me about it, I called Kanile'a and talked to the Lady herself, Kristen (Joe's wife). I asked her if they made any lower priced ukes like Pono is to Ko'olau. She said no, they dont make ukes like that. I initially told her, by mistake, if the Honu ukes were made by them...duh, wrong name. When I finally got the name Nalo correct, she then confirmed it was theirs made for another company. The initial add on CL said Mahoganny body but Kristen said they make all koa, No Mahoganny. So I got an awesome deal!

Nice! Where do you find these (the Nato, that is)?

I'm guessing, but I'm a little sure this may be the company at the Aloha Stadium Swap meet who has them made for them. Their retail store is called the Honolulu Nuts & Ukulele Company. They are in Waimanalo (hence the Nalo label). Can be reached at 808-259-7880.

That binding is Be-a-u-tiful!!

Isn't it! The original pictues in CL didnt even show the binding. When I went to look at it, it reminded me of the Ukulele that Chizniky bought when she came to Hawaii.

Someone should have just warned me not to look up uke's on CL in Hawaii...

That's how I found my precious Kanile'a concert - I contacted the seller, we talked, I asked if he would be willing to ship and he agreed! The price was good and my Betty is the queen of my ukulele palace...

Oh my goodness?!?!?! you really did that??

Buying off of CL when you can't see in person is the most dangerous thing ever...

Hm... Brain storm.... Would anyone in Hawaii Be willing to broker deals to us on the main land???

You could add a handling fee (make some $$).... and we get some great deals...

I'd be willing to help set this up if someone was interested.

Check with Sean (Ukulele Friend) but he usually deals in higher end instruments.

Yep, I really did that - worked out better than I'd even hoped. The koa is gorgeous, but better than that the music it makes sings straight to my heart...

NO regrets!
