View Full Version : bbycrts number 1000 contest - WE HAVE A WINNER!

To recap: create a poem that integrates vegetables and ukuleles. The prize: a lovely, framed acknowledgment of your greatness! And oh, yeah - I have a special something I'm also sending the winner...

And the winner:

Josuegroundhog with the following poem:

I'm pretty sure, that I did see
a spot on that carrot, wink at me.

I've pushed with my fork, and I've pried with my spoon
these dumb veggies just won't be gone soon.

So to the dog 'neath the table, this muck it will go,
and dear ole mom will never know.

Uh-oh! What's that you say?
No dessert straight to bed, and my uke I can't play?

Mom I was done! And the dog looks so thin!
But alas, tis my room, I end up in.

Tomorrow I'll play the uke I love most,
But tonight on UU, this poem I'll post.

As you may or may not recall, the contest was narrowed down to five entries by my wife and myself; our kids (aged 3 1/2 and 13) then chose the winner from among the finalists.

Josh's entry combined great rhyme and meter (loved by the parents) with a little naughtiness (feeding food to the dog under the table - loved by the kids) and a coherent story and humor (loved by all). Great job, Josh!

I'm sending you a PM as well - send me your full name and address via PM so we can send your loot out to you!

(Other finalists: UkuleleHill, Pueo, KC8AFW, and a second entry by Josuegroundhog - great job by all entrants; thanks for playing along - my 2000th post is just around the corner - what to do, what to do?)
