Hi I just inherited a Banjolele from my grandfather and as a mandolin and other similarly tuned instrument I was wondering if it is possible to tune a ukelele/banjolele in the same way?

Hi James. Welcome to UU.

It is possible to tune a banjolele to GDAE with the right strings. That said, why not learn to play it in uke tuning?

I'm a mandolin player as well as a uke player. IMO, that instrument works much better as a uke.

try irish tenor banjo strings. what scale is the banjolele?

I have heard that Aquila offers nylgut strings in mandolin tuning. I have yet to find a way to buy them.
