A few weeks ago I bought a Flea to share with my daughter who is 6. We both love it - we can't afford another Flea right now. I found someone to give her lessons so now she needs her own instrument. I was thinking she would enjoy a blue dolphin makala. She is attached to the Flea and I need to entice to another sturdy, good sounding, and affordable choice.

I like the Kiwi and would choose that one for myself - but I don't want to be the one who gets stuck with a blue dolphin. Blue is her favorite color. The fruit would embarrass her - yes, she has sophisticated taste I guess.

Lanikai is a consideration as well. But they don't come in blue :(

Thanks for reading - I look forward to your input!

For the price, the "dolphins" are quite nice, IMHO. Especially if you purchase it from someone who sets it up and adjusts it correctly (like MGM, for example).

I think you both will be happy, and good choice going with MGM.

I agree, his setup is the best...Iv'e bought more expensive ukes that didn't sound nearly as good! This is an excellent starter uke, and she's young enough to get really good before she wants say a Kanilea!
