Fretboard dots on a tenor

Should I put fretboard dots on the 3rd fret and on the 9th or 10th fret? Not concerned with what is traditional as much as what would be more acceptable to today's musician? Also, should I install corresponding dots on the side of the fretboard?

I think that generally what is traditional is also what is acceptable to todays musician. If you are making this for yourself, put them where you like. If you want to sell this, the normal positions are on the 3,5,7,10 and 12 frets with corresponding side dots. A minimal approach is for three dots on the 5,7,10 frets.

Its not being made for myself but I went 3,5,7,10 and 12 to match my mandolins although I add 15 on the mandolins but wont on the uke.
