View Full Version : Who's who on UU Contest?

hoosierhiver
08-24-2009, 04:23 PM
There are new members joining UU all the time. There was a recent thread about "Do you feel welcome on UU?" I think taking the time to fill out profiles might help us know each other better and help maintain this nice community that has developed. I am genuinely interested in "who's who on UU" So....

Here's the rules. Fill out your profile with some amount of sincere effort. Post a reply on this thread. And you're entered!

2 lucky winners get a free Eno-300 Clip-On tuner. One winner will be chosen by random drawing, the other on effort.

Drawing will be on October 1st,
(unless I forget, in which case it will on be the 2nd or 3rd.)

And..............Go!

I am not new, and I filled out my profile as best I could when I did it. I will see if it needs any updating.

Does this count?

btw very cool contest. I go to some peoples pages sometimes and ther is no info about them, makes me a sad panda.

Well Mike,

I went in and tried to fill in my profile but it seems that the fields aren't very long. It's the best I could do :)

As others have said, I too filled mine out to the best of my ability, but yeah, there's not much you can write due to character limitations.
Maybe we should also write a little bio on this page?

I've put as much as I could into those fields. I couldn't put that I've had UAS for about a year now but there is hope. I've finally settled into collecting sopranos and baritones. I do sell or trade some so it's not as bad as it looks :shaka:

I have checked my profile, and it's pretty much up to date. I do like to see the location of the members when they post a message in the forum and some sort of avatar image. It's little things that can add character to what otherwise can be a moderately bland form of communication.

Great idea for a contest. Quick and easy.

Too funny. I was just updating my profile when I came back in here to check on the Ohana Legend contest and came across this post. :D

Profile has been updated including some uke photos in my album so please check it out. :D

I wish there was a sort of “misc” section where you could write whatever but here is my introduction post (http://ukuleleunderground.com/forum/showpost.php?p=188909&postcount=1478) in case you’re particularly bored and really want to know more about me haha.

What a great contest!
Mine was already filled out, but I've squeezed some more in.

Seeing someone's location is mega-helpful especially in the Marketplace, where location affects the price re shipping costs, import duty etc etc. I'd like to see locations compulsory in those listings.

It's interesting to see where everyone is from, and how ukuleles have reached all corners of the globe :)

Hi all!
I updated my Profile as best I could. But given lack of space I thought I would flesh it out here... for anyone interested.

I'm a professional actor/writer here in my home town of Edmonton, I work in Theatre and Film, sometimes here at home, and sometimes I find myself in other cities doing the thing I love as well.. I started playing the ukulele 5 years ago... I finally thought it was time to learn guitar and so I grabbed my dad's old MANN and began the plunking away. At the time, I was in a show that toured around to Highschools, crammed in a van with 4 other people.... driving around through rural Alberta. There was obviously no room for my dad's guitar, so I thought I'd head down to the Music shop and buy a travel guitar. Much to my surprise, those are quite expensive, and my paychecks couldn't support the purchase.

So I bought a 20 dollar ukulele, and thought I could at least learn chord patterns to songs that I liked, and apply them to the guitar on the weekends when I was home.

To this day, I still only know very basic chords on the Guitar. Once I picked up that uke and strummed it I was hooked.

I instantly contacted a close friend of my and asked him if he'd like to start a ukulele cover band with me called The Be Arthurs.... he laughed, and then noticed I was serious.... and kindly declined... over a year later, after consistent pestering he finally caved once I told him there was such thing as a Baritone Ukulele... which was basically like a guitar (he wasn't keen on learning new chords ect).

Much to his wife's objection he went out and bought a 300 dollar ukulele and a month later we hit the streets busking at the Edmonton International Fringe Festival (a theatre festival here in the city).

We now have a drummer (he plays a tiny drum set), and keep very busy playing in the most ridiculous types of venues... you name it. We've played it. We surprisingly do very well, and at times it's this Band that is supporting my Acting career.

I love my band. And I adore this unsuspecting little instrument.

I started my own youtube account, and joined this site, because I just can't get enough of it and want to be surrounded by people who share that hunger... and I want to grow... and I know that this is the perfect place for that.

Thanks much love to this site.

Hello All!!
I just updated my profile...but there isn't too much room to include as much info as I would like. As a recap, I just started playing the ukulele in June....and joined Ukulele Underground shortly after that. I've been having a lot of fun with finding chords/tabs for my favorite songs and making videos of them. I have a few on my http://www.youtube.com/user/tammythe08, if you want to check them out. Also, I have found that almost any song sounds awesome on the ukulele...best spontaneous purchase ever!!

Don't usually look in Contests because I'm not really up to recording videos or such yet. But this is one I could qualify for. I will see what I can do to beef up my profile. Meanwhile, here's my intro post (http://www.ukuleleunderground.com/forum/showthread.php?p=160454#post160454).

Seeing as how I got my uke by winning a drawing, maybe lightning will strike twice and I'll be a winner here, too. :)

However, I recently bought two of the Eno's when they were on sale at another site. I posted a thread about it (http://www.ukuleleunderground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16256) and I think UU peeps bought them out.

So if I win, I would like to donate the prize to CountryMouse (http://www.ukuleleunderground.com/forum/showpost.php?p=208725&postcount=15). :)

I think you should win for that simple fact alone. That's the true spirit of Aloha. :worship:

Don't usually look in Contests because I'm not really up to recording videos or such yet. But this is one I could qualify for. I will see what I can do to beef up my profile. Meanwhile, here's my intro post (http://www.ukuleleunderground.com/forum/showthread.php?p=160454#post160454).

I'm feeling the love itsme :p....I also use that line of thinking, if you're blessed with a gift its nice to pass something on yourself. So in respect of that, if I win, I'll donate to CountryMouse too. I dont own a uke anyway, what do I need a tuner for :D

I'm in! I just did my profile. I've been using my guitar tuner, and just tuning the C string by fretting to C on the A string, but a tuner that recognizes C would be nice :)

Hi, I'm a noob
I've been checking the forums for answers to all my questions, I have to say this is a great online community here.
can I have a tuner now:D
no, seriously though, my boyfriend has noticed his guitar tuner is frequently missing and usually set to base guitar (it's the only way I can tune my lovely little uke)

OK, I updated my profile the best I could, but perhaps it is better to leave some things to the imagination, the way it is when you fill in the blank spots of characters from a book.

I hope I have completed enough info for you... I am a "new" member and proud to also represent INDY. So, I am wanting to make acquaintences and learn from the "Seniors and Juniors" everyone has something to offer (potentially) I have played the Uke for three months (after 30 years of guitar gigging in Indy) I bought a Kala soprano (long neck) love it so much... I asked Santa to bring me the big brother Kala (concert) Same scale as the "SLNG" I would like to extend my thanx to everyone keeping this (UU) operating, members, staff and visitors etc. Have a great week coming up and check out the Town Meeting on Tuesday Nov. 10th, I'll be there too! ~ Carson
