Its time to upgrade from my entry level ukulele (kala ka-t)!! both the pono ohai deluxe series and the riptide ukuleles come out sometime in october. i believe they both will be in my price range ($300-$500).

im torn between which one to choose. any advice or opinions on either brand would be highly apprieciated.

I don't know anything about Riptides but there are several reviews around here on the Pono Ohai. I had one and was not fond of it at all. The sound board was extremely thick (in my opinion) Others apparently liked them. However in that price range I think you have many options...I later bought the Pono Mahogany Tenor which I love, you can almost get to the Pono Mango for that price, and the Pono Spruce top is well within your price! Also keep in mind Mainland, you will hear lots of folks around here singing their praises.

i dont know how you can post a v"s" thread when almost noone has actually played a riptide unless you have a sample like me or went to summer Namm..seems premature to ask at this point

You're not an idiot, you just suffer from UAS like the rest of us. ;)
Logical behavior not expected. :D

That Pono Ohai Deluxe series is the one with the cedar top, right? Should be excellent.

What's a riptide?
