A friend of mine is in the fancy wood floor business and I just got alot of cool scraps. I found some black wood that looks like ebony, he said it was "Wangee wood"(sp?) from Africa and is related to ebony. Anybody know about this stuff. Looks like it'd be great for fret boards.

Wenge (Millettia laurentii) is a nice tonewood and hard as nails.
I always thought it looked like chocolate.

Wenge

BTW - It's not related to ebony

vid, plz.

Or do you want me to invoke R2?
:rulez:

ANYWAYS... Theres a thread on someone doing a tenor build with wenge... Its about 10-12 threads down. I think pete said you would need a lot of epoxy pore filler as it is a very porous wood.

I keep admiring your marketing skills... Who would have thought about there being a market for Wangee ukuleles? Anyway, if you make 'em, we'll buy 'em.
