Tuning the top

Some recent threads have had some very interesting discussions about fine tuning your uke. I know there is no magic bullet but I would like to try to pin down a little more what different makers look for. When speaking about flexing the top, are you speaking about along its length or width or perhaps both? Are there certain notes which you find you aim for in tapping a top or back? If you sing into the uke I posted earlier on this forum it has a resonance peak which stretches from the E through the G with its most resonant point being the F#. It sounds pretty good but I know it could be a lot better. Thanks ahead of time for any input.
