So I've decided how to go about my first ukulele build. I'm going to buy a cheap kit and put my own top on it. i'm also going to create my own fretboard. I wanted to use wood for the top that is found in Georgia. I also have no idea of where to buy wood. I have no way of thickness sanding short of sandpaper and manual sanding so the supplier will have to take care of that for me. Thanks for the help

You might be asking too much wanting both native woods and a top already planed to your desired thickness (or close to it). For instance, red cedar is a popular top for ukes and guitars, but it's always the western red cedar one sees available at luthier supply shops, and not the eastern red cedar that grows in Georgia.

Check out these supply places:

I sent Kevin an email as well as a local sawmill. As for taking the top off this grizzly kit, how should I go about doing that?

Yea I posted over there too. Saw the thread just after posting that last one. Thanks ;)
