Pono PTES Ukulele/Bridge Pins

Anyone have one of these, how does the sound compare to a mahogany and spruce top, also how do the bridge pins work, i have bridge pins on one of my guitars and the strings have a little metal part at the end, would i need to buy different ukulele strings?

The bridge pins work the same way as a guitar. Except, instead of the metal ring, you tie a knot.
