Definitely like the look of this. I think it will last me till I can afford a Collings! Does any one know if Mainland have a UK distributor?

Thanks.

I ordered one of these babies with the intention of doing a head to head comparison with my Collings UC-1. Should be interesting.

They took so long getting into stock that I spent my money on a mandolin. Later perhaps... I seriously doubt that Mainland will miss my business for a while on this particular model... :) They appear to have a winner.

I am looking forward to this. I have read your review of the UC-1, its a great looking ukulele. No1 on my want list at the moment.

Pretty awesome uke!

I think the slotted headstock is a cool combo with the rope binding.

Agreed. It's like a little classical guitar. :)

the headstock definitely has a distinctive look to it. I'm really looking forward to seeing some vids and hearing some samples!

scheduled delivery on Monday. On one hand, I'm pulling my hair out and wishing I still lived in Indiana, on the other hand at least it comes on my day off.

WOW I like the proportions of this slotted headstock perfect for four tuners. I see some slotted headstocks which look like the slot was meant for six tuners- too long looking for four. Any slotted pineapples in your future? :D

I just realized that there's a lot of room underneath the Mainland logo. Looks I'll be busting out some inlay stickers I have lying around. ETA tomorrow!

The brown truck just brought me my Mainland slotted headstock. Rapid reaction:

-Nice dark mahogany with no ribbon effect. I like this as I'm not a fan of the ribbon look.

-Very well executed slotted headstock. All the edges are "sharp", which I prefer to soft/rounded edges. The slots are clean and the overall shape looks nice.

-I've only lightly strummed it a couple of times in my office, so I don't know much about the sound yet. But so far it reminds me of the Lanikai tenor neck solid spruce top soprano I once had.

-Seems to be a pretty good value for $250 shipped.

Not much else to report for now. I'll be subjecting it to a no-holds-barred comparison to the Collings UC-1 in the coming weeks, and maybe even compare it to my William King slotted headstock concert just for fun (a slotted head-to-slotted head comparison? LOL!). Should be fun.

Quality pics would be nice. You know the rule. "Pics, or....'

I think that is what we now call "Rule 2" :rulez:

The back is actually glossy, but doesn't look that way in this picture.

Actually, the back is full gloss. I guess that picture must have been taken at an angle where no light was reflected or something.

Nice finish and a good value I'm sure. It's always exciting to see the big brown truck in your driveway. The only problem I see is that the strings seem to rub against the slot/slots. Maybe it's just the picture. Look forward to your review.

The strings do rub against the slots. I've got two slot heads made by William King that has the same thing. I understand the reasoning behind why that's probably not the most ideal thing, but I haven't had any issues with the Kings stemming from this, so hopefully it won't present a problem down the road. William has made classical guitars (mostly w/slotted headstocks) for decades now, so I can only assume that he knows what he's doing.

These look great...

I would've loved to see the rope binding around the slotted headstock too though, like on the other Mainlands. Any reason it disappeared, I wonder?
