this was quite interesting.

anyone found any benefit in beads for tieing strings , or just simple knots, like he advocates to keep better string geometry?

Interesting, yes. But I just don't like the look of the bead and knot technique he advocates....

I don't think it's the bead I object to....it's the knot.

I know Dave (http://www.ukuleleunderground.com/forum/member.php?u=1928) of Waverly Street Ukes (http://www.wsukes.com/) does a "bead" for his stringing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1F9Qucl_UOo)...

Meh, I'd rather just tie the string around the bridge. It's quick and simple and wear on the bridge is minimal to almost none, unless you abuse the surface of the bridge. The string geometry, the part that matters will begin on the saddle of the bridge anyway.

back when I hated tie string bridges (mainly because I always tied them in reverse, and they would always slip off) I used beads on my Kala. what ended up happening was it started to dent where the bead was. the strings never slipped, but the first time I changed strings and caught the dents, I stopped doing it and learned to tie my bridge correctly.

Yeah, personally I think it looks rather tacky. I much prefer a nicely tied string.

If done right the beads could look very nice... This could also be another way for those who like to put bling on their ukuleles another way to embelish...

My Pineapple Sunday came with a "bead" tie...but they were morel like tiny gold washers.
I bought some beads to match the koa but haven't had to change the strings yet. I play them until they fall off. :p

If the Okamis do bead ties...then you know it's cool! :shaka:
