Interesting, yes. But I just don't like the look of the bead and knot technique he advocates....

I don't think it's the bead I object to....it's the knot.
 
Meh, I'd rather just tie the string around the bridge. It's quick and simple and wear on the bridge is minimal to almost none, unless you abuse the surface of the bridge. The string geometry, the part that matters will begin on the saddle of the bridge anyway.

back when I hated tie string bridges (mainly because I always tied them in reverse, and they would always slip off) I used beads on my Kala. what ended up happening was it started to dent where the bead was. the strings never slipped, but the first time I changed strings and caught the dents, I stopped doing it and learned to tie my bridge correctly.
 
If done right the beads could look very nice... This could also be another way for those who like to put bling on their ukuleles another way to embelish...
