I'd like to embellish, or as has been expressed, "pimp" my uke.
I'd best accomplish this by temporarily removing the strings. How long can the instrument be unstrung without compromising it? A few hours? A few days? Fuggedaboudit?

You can leave it unstrung indefinitely.

But the real question is how long you can go without having a ukulele to play.

I know that there are some out there in guitar world who say that an instrument should not be left unstrung for long, but Frank Ford, a very experienced and respected luthier who owns Gryphon Stringed Instruments and hosts this site www.frets.com makes it very clear that no damage is done to an instrument by leaving it unstrung.

I have a mandolin that is over 100 years old that I took to Frank for a minor repair and it had not had strings on it for at least 40 years. Mandolins have much higher string tension then do ukes and when Frank put a straight edge on it the neck was perfect.
