So, in just 50 years, we gone from "The All-Family Drink" to "Make 7, Up yours (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsMFZBDIcFs&feature=related)":D

Hey wait.

That's totally unsafe. Pop's smoking. Smoking I tell you!

Where are the seat belts? Those people should be arrested for putting their children in danger like that.

And are those glass bottles? GLASS? Are these people crazy?

It's a wonder any of them lived through those times.

They are all gonna end up with chipped front teeth.

I don't think all those poeple are part of the same family... it's hard to tell, but besides the hay ride driver they seem to be all about the same age... and they are paired up into boy-girl couples. the two kids with the instruments in the foreground are the only ones looking at the camera... the other kids guarding the stash of 7up (in the cooler) are looking at some other camera. I think that pipe smoking pop is taking those other kids somewhere else... i think this scene will end badly.

What a great find!!!

Ahhh… for happier times… Dean Martin was on the radio (some old guy), the PC police weren’t there looking over your shoulder, when kids could go have a good time, folks could smoke a pipe in peace and the world had yet to turn cynical…

Yet somethings have changed for the better....

What do you mean Sukie?

I'm not going there. I don't want to start a flame war or anything. Bleeding heart liberals have a hard time with the "save me from myself" world though. I should be able to hurt myself if I want to, though. (Not that I do, I'm just sayin'....)

An innocent thread with a silly uke-related ad turns into whining about liberals destroying our way of life in less than a page? That's really not cool, guys.

Well, I don't understand. What tack would you prefer this thread take? Would you prefer that we all just say "cool photo"?

To answer Sukie...

I am pretty sure when that add came out Sammy Davis Jr. was having a hard time staying in the Hotels where he was a star or getting greif for marrying May Britt (more old folks).

So Uke Talk is a good soapbox for taking pot-shots at political opponents? Gotcha. Carry on, then.

I wasn't taking any pot shots. I was just commenting on the "save me from myself" mentality I get frustrated with. Who said anything about political opponents?

I am sorry if you are offended. I NEVER mean to offend anyone here -- or in my real life either. I'm too much of a people pleaser and I know it.

My bad! Complete misunderstanding. :p Honestly couldn't tell if you were being snarky or just plain rude (although the latter would be out-of-character for you, so I should've figured). Deleted anything that might be ruining the thread. ;) I've seen discussions on other forums start with something innocent, only to have one vague political jab turn the whole thread into all-out warfare, where people I like end up ripping each other apart, and I'd hate to see it happen on UU.

1950s "wholesomeness" cracks me up, though. :D The cigarette ads might be my favorite.

Better since the '50s? I'll take the double-edged sword approach and say internet.

We have access to more information than any generation before us.

FLIP SIDE: We have way too much access to way too much information, too often creating (IMHO) fake realities.

On the whole, I like the internet. Without it, I wouldn't have seen this cool 7-UP ad featuring a uke.

OMG, I make one innocent observation about how the marketing has changed and look what happens! I can't leave you kids alone for a second!! :D

However, if you'll pardon an out-of-character, blatant capitalist observation... They should sack the kid at top centre. She's not displaying the branding properly.

Sears and Roebuck Mail Order Catalog, no doubt! You'll likely have to dye some blue ones red to get the same look.

When I was 18 - 22 years old I lived in Canada. I LOVED the Sears catalog, and put it to very good use. Now we've got the internet, but it does't seem to cause the same sense of wonder and anticipation.

Nostalgia ain't what it used to was.

I am in NO WAY making a political statment here!!!!!!!:D:eek:
You would think that the NRA logo would be every where now with the recovery that the admin. has been working on.

The NRA logo in that cover shot is a different NRA than what we think of today:confused:
