I haven't played the Kala, but I love my Lanikai LU21T.

Sorry - dont own a Lanikai 21 Tenor, but do own a 21 Sop.

I went through same deliberations vs Kala, and went with the Lani - its a great great instrument for the price!

I just bought a Lanikai LU21T and love it. I highly recommend it. (I don't work for this site or anything) I got it on www.musiciansfriend.com . It lists for $109.00 but they will beat the lowest price, and I found it on Amazon for $95.95. Definetly a great investment.

Me personally...I'd go with the Kala KA-T...probably because I know I'd be able to get a great deal with MGM. :D

For example, THIS (http://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-New-Kala-KA-T-Mahogany-Tenor-Ukulele-case-w-setup_W0QQitemZ330375303713QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_D efaultDomain_0?hash=item4cebe71221) Kala KA-T, or you can get fancy and get THIS (http://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-New-Kala-KA-TG-Mahogany-Tenor-Ukulele-GLOSS-PKG_W0QQitemZ250527034938QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_Def aultDomain_0?hash=item3a54932e3a) Kala KA-TG (G standing for a GLOSS finish, oooo FANCY, lol)

I have a KA-T and it's very nice. It stays in tune well and has a bright sound with GHS strings, and sounds even better with Nylgut. My poor husband can hear me practicing in my office from two rooms away, so I guess it's pretty loud, too.

Either one is a safe choice.

I'm a Kala fan, but Lanikai and Kala are pretty even at the entry level. Both good.

I'm sure I saw the guy who plays uke with Paolo Nutini banging tunes out of a Lanikai! Can't be bad.

Thanks guys, I'll probably take the Lanikai. Not buying from MGM whoever suggested that as it costs $50 to ship to England, which is half the price of the uke!

in the UK try the southern ukulele store on ebay, or if you cant find them try musicislife.com. they are the real shop from that ebay store, based in bournemouth they have the largest selection and best uk prices. i think the lt21 there is about 89 quid. it is where i got mine from. they are really helpful and if you call them or call in and buy a case too they usually throw in a set of spare strings if oyu are cheeky enough to ask.

LU21-T was my first "serious" ukulele. In my opinion it is a very good instrument - I don't play it to often now because I have some other instruments, but when I take it out of its case to play it I'm always amazed how loud it is - even with the stock GHS strings. Can't say anything about this particular Kala - I have only kala acacia and kala soprano travel and they are both awesome instruments.

You can buy this uke in Germany (if not avaiable in England). The shipment wil be probalby about 10EUR.
musik-produktiv.com and thomann.de have them in stock.

I've had both. Preferred the Kala. It was very resonant and had a full rich tone. (Aquila strings) I decided that a tenor was just too large for me.
I traded it in on a Pono soprano and it's on sale at Bernunzio's right now: www.bernunzio.com.

Might add that either would be a good choice. The Kala I had was exceptional in sound and resonance. There are differences even within the same brand name, same materials, same size etc.

That really has nothing to do with my choice, especially as I don't know anyone who could fix it up, but thanks for the info!
