There are ukes with 6 strings...how are the strings arranged?

If in fact it is a 6 string uke, as already suggested, then you don't have to worry about anything.

but I'm guesssing that it has some metal strings... I'm also guessing the spacing is even... and what you have is a fractional sized guitar (I assumed that it was sized similar to a uke)... theoretically you might be able to convert it to sound like a uke, but the spacing between the strings on a guitar is usually closer than on a uke. If you are stuck with it and really want a uke... you might consider converting it to a 6 string like I did with a half sized guitar...

$40 6-string Baritone Uke with Classic Headstock...

if it IS a guitar, not only would the spacing between strings be off, just changing strings might not work because they are usually made for specific sizes, so IF you DO change strings, make sure that you use appropriate thickness strings to get you appropriate string tension when tuned.

although, the best solution would probably be to get a proper uke.
