Goal: To offer Ukulele chord fingerings via text message.

Preparation:

1. Follow Twitter user "ukechord" http://twitter.com/ukechord
2. Configure Twitter to forward direct messages to your phone.

Getting a chord fingering:

1. Text Twitter (40404) with: "@ukechord" followed by the chord name.
2. Receive chord fingering.

I built this a few days ago. If there is interest I have a few other features in mind:
  • Version for guitar/banjo/ect.
  • Specify alternate tuning.
  • Specify capo position.
  • Receive multiple possible chord shapes.

If you just want to play with my fingering generation engine: http://classicalcode.com/ukulele/

@ukechord uke chords directly to your phone

I've seen a lot of iPhone apps, websites, and other things that help you find ukulele chords but this by far is one of the coolest and easiest to use. It's a twitterbot called @ukechord and it sends you the fingering to whatever chord you want straight to your cell phone as a direct message.

If you're already familiar with twitter this is how it works.

1. You follow @ukechord on twitter
2. Make sure you have DMs being sent to your phone as a txt or have some kind of twitter app that can show you your DMs
3. reply to @ukechord with the chord you want to know how to play. eg @ukechord A
4. You will receive a DM with the fingering for the chord like this: (A) Frets from top to bottom: 2100

It's that simple.

As if you needed another reason to sign up for twitter, this is amazing. Kudos to the developer. If you want to send him a thank you, leave him a comment in his blog.

Rayan, thanks for pointing this out. What an awesome tool!! I'll be all over this!!

Ryan, I'm gonna merge this with an earlier thread by the developer.

Thanks ;)

If people are going to actually use this, I would be more than happy to continue improving it. Are there specific features that people would find useful for an application like this?

Hi Jordan, Ryan highly recommends your app and that's a good sign. Let's give the thread a couple days of exposure so members can respond. From the feedback, you can then assess what other features can be incorporated. Thanks again for your work and contribution.
