If you haven't run across Mr. John King, check out the video of him playing ukulele at

He passed on this year, but revived a baroque guitar technique for the ukulele to great effect. A must see!

Don't understand. Why would that technique go anywhere?

I was definitely sad to hear about his passing:(..but I agree with ken did baroque ever need to be revived or did it leave...Not likely..anyways john king will be missed that is for sure!

I miss him. He was one of my greatest inspirations. I count it a great privilege that I got to talk to him on the phone one time. His memory will always be honored by me.

I think it is important to remember that although the ukulele is associated with popular music, it is an instrument with a special voice of its own. In the right hands it is as eloquent in interpreting classical, baroque, renaissance, or modern music as any other stringed instrument. John King helped me see that. I don't want to see the ukulele limited to a popular music repertoire - although there is nothing wrong with popular music and it sounds wonderful on the ukulele.

My own passion is to play sacred music on the ukulele. I don't think I could have imagined doing it in the style that I aspire to without John King and Jake Shimabukuro.
