Hi :D

I've been playing for about 6 months and have been trying to learn using the internet but i was thinking about buying "The classical ukulele" By John king, And i was just wondering if you would recommend it, is it good??

Thanks in advance,
Mini

I bought the book, and it came with a CD. Depending on your previous experience, the book has a few easy pieces, and several intermediate pieces, and some challenging pieces. I have been playing since February, and am finding the songs easier to play now than when I first tried it. The audio CD is a big help, and a good guide to what each song sounds like. There were several very nice pieces I was unfamiliar with, and the CD made it easy to choose which ones to learn first. I have some classical guitar background, which helps a lot. It is a great book, so I recommend it, but maybe not for beginners.

If you are a beginner, without any previous instrument background, you might have more success with this free online book:

Playing these songs has made my advancement very enjoyable.

I wish John King was still alive. He was an awesome musician.

I think its an awesome book and a must have for anyone who likes to finger pick.

Just like Lori said, easy, hard, and really hard pieces are included. But all pieces are written out in both standard and tabulature- so very accessible to beginner players.

This is the only uke book I have ever bought. (Most of the uke books out there are just too "hokey" for my tastes.) It's a worthwhile book to have just for his unique "campanella" style Bach arrangements. Plus, the CD makes for delightful listening all on its own.

But be aware that not everything in the King book is really "classical", even if arranged in a somewhat classical style, such as Danny Boy, the Chopsticks waltz, the Entertainer, and several Hawaiian tunes.

There are several free tabs by King on his site to give you an idea of his style.

The links Lori gave are both excellent sources. :)
