Has anyone here gotten a cigarbox uke from Papa's Boxes? I've heard a couple on Youtube and they sound pretty cool, and I like the "semi-headless" look... Plus, you can't beat the price!

They're not bad, price wise-- $110-165... or you can buy a kit and make it yourself for as little as $60.

Not that I'm trying to encourage anyone else to make irresponsible purchases just 'cause I do! :D

I've got one on order, actually... So I'll definitely report back!

You mind throwing up a link or two to the vids?

With the strings that come with it, he says it sounds better since it's been restrung:

A soprano, the old "headless" style that's been replaced with the "semi-headless" you see above:

I know, I know-- the Ukulady is an acquired taste, but here's hers:

Holy! That was fast!

you don't have uas. no. not at all...

I'd already ordered it, based on what I'd heard, and just liking the design... (plus it's the only handmade uke I'll be able to afford for a while now.)

I was mostly wondering what people had heard. I know he had a booth at NYC Ukefest the last two years.

MGM might have ran into that booth then. But man oh man, You're making me want to buy one for myself also. Got those bills tho.

I like it. Nice change of pace. It's sound kind of halfway between a banjolele and a ukulele.

I actually exchanged emails with Papas boxes, very nice family man. You all should check out his website. I invited him to check out UU, be a sponsor, but I don't know if he did or not, he said he would...I really want to try my had at making one of those myself, the instructions are so easy, he emailed them to me free!! Anyway, I have to gain the courage to actually purchase a kit, wife, finances, guilty conscience waying on the brain... Before the year is out I will have built me one. Just gotta find me a suitable box.

i like its uniqueness. but it'd be kinna hard to find a proper case. aha.

This is something I've been wondering about.

My sister's pretty crafty-- I've been thinking about trying to get her to make me a case for it.

Good idea. Present it to her as a challenge.
