Have a look thru the entrepreneurs and suggest some people to donate to, then we'll decide on one and help them out with a loan.

Have we decided who we are loaning to?

Your contest will have a greater impact if we all loan to the same person

Looks like several of the entrepreneurs that have been already chosen have by UPUTDWS members have already accomplished their request for assistance and are on their way.
I'm leaning towards everyone picking whomever appeals to them the most. There are alot of great candidates out there and also several folks that UPUTDWS members have already helped by aren't to their goal yet. I pulled the trigger yesterday for a family raising ducks in Cambodia.

Great idea Mike! Thanks for bringing it to our attention. I joined the UU Kiva group, and because I couldn't pick just one borrower, I lent to a few. I have a friend who represents investors involved with microfinancing on a large scale. It's great that us regular people can get involved too. Thanks again!

I'm really giddy about it! I was initially hoping that we could hit $1000 by New Years. Almost $1200 in loans already. You guys are the best!

This might have to be a seasonal endeavor, with a different cause a few times each year. Several folks have mentioned the Heffer Project. Maybe we will do something with them in the spring.

Mike,

My wife discovered Kiva a couple of weeks ago and has loaned to over a dozen worthy folks all over the world. One look at her loaning and listening to her excitement about how Kiva operates and I'm sold on this. The fact that you are generously sweetening with a uke is generosity indeed!

You are doing great work here. I'm joining Kiva and the group shortly.

This from Kiva: (http://www.kiva.org/about/inside/2010/01/13/earthquake-in-haiti-update-on-kiva.html)

Kiva currently supports borrowers in Haiti through our field partner, Esperanza International. Esperanza is based in the Dominican Republic, but has an office and provides loans in Haiti. About 1/3 of the loans Esperanza posts to Kiva are for borrowers in Haiti. In addition, a large percentage of the loans posted from the Dominican Republic are of Haitian migrants who still have family in Haiti. Esperanza has told us that as of now, Esperanza staff are safe though they have several employees with family in Port-au-Prince who have not been able to contact their families and are very concerned. Esperanza’s clients are located in the North, while the earthquake struck the capital in the south. Most of their clients live close to their offices in the north. However, many of them have businesses that require them to travel to and from Port-au-Prince to buy merchandise to sell in the main markets. Their businesses may have been affected and it is possible that some of them may have been in Port-au-Prince at the time and been injured.

It is impossible for Esperanza to give us any exact figures at this time as information is only slowly trickling out of Haiti. As Kiva learns more about the effect of the earthquake on Esperanza and their Kiva borrowers we will update lenders.
