Where to drill the hole?

I would like a strap button on my Kamaka tenor. There is a seam where the two sides come together in the place where the button would go. That is to say centered on the bottom of the ukulele. Should I drill the hole a little above or below the seam or in the seam? My gut says to avoid drilling in the seam to avoid splitting. Thanks.

Strap buttons are traditionally located at the middle of the center seam on the lower bout and at the heel of the neck.

Yes, just drill carefully and you'll be fine. There is a block of wood opposite this seam on the inside of the Uke that will give it support.
