Okay, I love the Proclaimers (500 miles) but they went and done one better with the tune Free Market. My wife claims she wrote about a year ago and told em to do a song with ukulele. Don't know if that sparked anything but any old way they have it on that song and it's just grand! Hibs, Ukes and Pros!

This is a great song! Too bad I can't find chords online anywhere.

Here we go:

Verse

G Gmaj7 G6
G Gmaj7 G6
Am F Fsus
Am F D

Chorus

Bm C
Bm C
Am D

A quick Google turned up this. Not sure accurate they are mind.

INTRO - C Em Am Am C Am Am Am

VERSE 1
Em C C Am
C Em C C
Am Am D D
D D G G

OTHER VERSES
C C G G
C Em Am Am
D D D D
D D Em G

CHORUS
G Em Am Am
Em Em Am D

For the D at the end of the verse use Barre at 2 4th finger 1st string 5th fret
For the D at the end of the chorus, use 2,3,4 second fret.

Mine are accurate because I just worked it out by ear straight from that vid.

For giggles you can substitute a first position Em for the F6, alternate for more interest.

Thanks for the chords. I did do a google search and it found nothing for me. Too bad there are chords in this song I can't play yet, lol.

Here is another interpretation from The Proclaimers Haver Board forum

G Bm Em
G Bm Em

G Bm Em
Your heart just missed another beat
G Bm Em
the grounds still moving neath your feet
Am F F#Dim F
your mouth is dry your eyes are sore
Am C D
theres nothing certain anymore

you thought that history was dead
well it just wacked you on the head
it took your money and your right
its coming back to take your pride

Bm C
golden days are just a memory
Bm C
but thats alright cos the market is still free
Am C D
the markets freeeee

This kind of worked for me when I briefly tried it a couple of minutes ago. I was using my Kala tenor, which is tuned F#-B-D#-G#, but I think on a GCEA tuned soprano it wold be about right.

you're referring to this thread I guess?

In case any of you out there are uke players too, this is played on BF#DA tuning.

Here are the full lyrics:

Your heart's just missed another beat
The ground's still moving neath your feet
Your mouth is dry, your eyes are sore
There is nothing certain anymore

You thought that History was dead,
Well it's just whacked you on the head
It took your money, and you're right
It's coming back to take your pride

Golden days are just a memory
But that's all right cos the market is still free,
The market's free.

Survival of the fittest is a swizz
Law of the jungle is what it is
I hope you still think it's OK
Now it's you who are the prey

Golden days are just a memory
But that's all right cos the market is still free,
The market's free.

Free marketeers were on a roll
Rolling in silver and in gold
But then the market grew too cold
So they held out the begging bowl

Golden days are just a memory
But that's all right cos the market is still free,
The market's free.

You thought that History was dead
You thought that History was dead

Unfortunately it's a bit late here, my flatmates won't be pleased with me figuring this out right now... so if anyone else would like to have a go, feel free :)

I think thats the D Addario way of saying ADF#B tuning. i.e just tune up your GCEA uke strings, or stick a capo on.

I'll try this again later after I take the dogs for a walk.

just played it capo'd and it didn't sound too great, played uncapo'd and it sounds a lot better. I also gave scottie's version a go and it sounds close as well, and it's easier to play too. I'm not too sure about the third line of the verse though... there's definately four chords there, the third chord indicated by both options (Fsus and F#dim) just doesn't seem right... to me at least.

The version full with Em's and Am's doesn't sound remotely close... in GCEA tuning at least
