Hey everyone! Hope you all had a great new years! I came up with this idea before the holidays and we're getting 2010 rolling in style! There are a lot of really great posts here in the forum, so much so that finding the really great ones is becoming a little difficult. So we're going to create a book consisting entirely of the forum posts here.

Please link in this thread the most useful posts you can find in UU.

If your post is selected, you will have the option to participate or not. If you do participate in the book, you will have your name (real or screenname) and picture (or avatar) on the page of your post. You will also receive a free copy of the book if you appear in it.

The whole idea is to give more recognition to those who took the time to add serious value to UU. There are many of you who have gone above and beyond to turn this little place on the internet to one of the definitive ukulele resources. The book will hopefully be available sometime in April if we get enough submissions.

Deadline for Submissions is Jan 31, 2010.

*criteria*
Posts submitted must be helpful to other ukulele players
No song help please (dealing with copyright is a pain in the butt)

Howlin Hobbit's cheater theory is great stuff - but I'm having a Dickens of a time (capitalized for Shane's benefit) finding a specific post by him - can we include things like that?

great idea

I have learned so much form this forum since I joined. Many times, it isn't just one post that is helpful, but several posts in a thread. Sometimes it is several different threads. Getting a consensus of opinion from the group is as informative as input from experts. These are the subjects that seem to come up a lot:

How to choose a ukulele.
What is the difference in sizes?
How do the materials affect the sound (wood types, plastic, etc)?
Gloss finish verses Matte finish.
Strings. (My favorite post here was about using fishing line, and what sizes work for each string.)
How to hold the ukulele.
Pick or no Pick. Also, what is a safe pick guard?
Strap or no Strap.
Information on different makers of ukuleles... cost verses quality.
How to adjust nut and saddle (for playability, and avoid buzz).
Strumming technique.
How do I read tablature?

Also, maybe a review section, for ukes, books, and cases etc.

Maybe there are "stickies" on some of these subjects, but they might make good chapters.

koalohapaul posted a thread a few months back that included an extraordinary essay on his experience as a master builder, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to find it. Searches only go back to when the new forum format got implemented, so I'm guessing when that issue is resolved I'll be able to find it. Anybody remember the name of that thread?

Case humidifiers & humidity!

Can't find the threads right now...

Yeah our search function went from bad to worse. Try using the advanced search and selecting one year ago for the date option. it helped me. still a ghetto fix.

I ended up using Google as the search (recommended in a Site Suggestions thread) by typing in: site:www.ukuleleunderground.com/forum [enter search words without these brackets]
