I'm shopping for a present for my son, who has a Lanikai concert size that cost around $100 new, so we're looking to upsize and upgrade, and he needs to be able to plug into an amplifier, probably a can amp he is looking to buy. I'm a newbie (since August) with soprano and concert Ponos that I've enjoyed learning on, but can't afford a tenor Pono with pu for a present.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I honestly don't know know about the best. But for comparison shopping, there is the Kala Ka-Te, Kala Ka-Teme, and Kala Ka-Tem-e3. I know that Oscar Schmidt has some comparable ones, as well as Lanikai.
I found some good prices at JW Bosworth:

Ebay always has good deals:
Here is an E-bay seller cecileasmusic:

Here's musicguymike:

I hope this helps. I too am looking for an uke, I've narrowed it down to either a Kala Ka-tem, teme, or tem-e3.

Good luck.

Someone selling a Lanikai in the Marketplace, might be worth checking out.

thanks

I'll check out the others after work, but the ebay one is a beauty, but I need one with a pickup. Thanks again all.

I'll sing this loud and proud to whoever will listen - I LOVE MY LANIKAI LU21-TE!

I agree with seeso....Just purchased a Lanikai LU-21 TE yesterday for $110 and absolutely love it both acoustic and plugged in. Great bang for the buck!
