I just got my ukulele and have been fooling around with it a bit, learning chords and picking out melodies. So there's one part in this song I'm playing where the highest note is A#5 but the highest note I can play on my uke is A5.

Would it be okay for me to just tune the A string a half step up so I can play the sharp? Will this damage my string for the future? I don't plan on playing this live so I don't have to worryabout retuning the string mid-song or anything. This probably seems like a clueless beginner question, which it totally is. Thanks!

No, that's fine.. as long as you work out the rest of the notes for that string, chords could become difficult.

Tuning up a full step is not an issue either, it's called Canadian tuning I think. When you first try it the note will keep coming out of tune quickly though, it's just like when you have new strings.

yeh, as long as you can change the rest of the song into that tuning, and make sure you can still play your lowest note! :p
