Sticky Neck--yuck

I am fortunate enough to have a 1962 Kamaka soprano. After playing a short time, the neck gets sticky (the uke's, not mine) only where my left thumb holds it. I've actually made a thumb glove for playing! My other ukes do not do this (yes, I have UAS) and my hands are dry. Any suggestions? Is it something weird with the finish?

Played a guitar at an outdoor party in hot weather with the need for mosquito spray once - the spray got to the finish and it all turned sticky. Had to refinish it. The velveteen from the case had stuck in it - yuch.

You could have started a trend with fuzzy guitars! Since it's just one spot on my uke, I think I'll stick with my stupid thumb glove. I'm not yet performing for anyone anyway.
