Anyone else participating in February Album Writing Month? It's about what it sounds like, a challenge to write 14 songs in the month of February, and the site just opened up. This year is going to be my first "true" attempt at it (I "tried" last year, with the full understanding that I wasn't going to come close to completing).

Anyhow, I think it's neat, so I'm sharing. Would love to hear other ukers there!

A couple of years ago I took (and failed spectacularly) the RPM Challenge, which is similar: only 10 songs or 35 minutes of original music written and recorded in 28 days. I was considering doing it again this year.

And if you're going to fail, spectacularly is the way to go.

I tried it last year and completely flamed out. But it did force me to come up with a few good ideas, even if no full songs came out of it.

I did FAWM last year and won! I also did 50/90 this summer and wrote a complete musical.
So HELL YA I'm doing this again. Come on ukulele people, I need help spreading the uke love among all those guitarists.

Failure IS an Option

Most people who try FAWM actually "fail" ... but even so, you'll have written more than you might have written otherwise. Plus, the people there are just as supportive as this board. Come join! http://www.fawm.org/

I had a fun FAWM this year. Managed to eke out a win. I learned the power of minor keys. I learned a lot about Tiger Woods girlfriends. I learned the good and the bad side of backing tracks.

Remember the same website does the 50 songs in 90 days challenge during the summer. Last year I wrote a musical for ukulele. We've had a lot more ukulele players showing up on FAWM this year, so I hope that continues.

My computer died, so I haven't finished recordings yet, but my stuff is here: http://fawm.org/fawmers/garyjugert/ (Don't listen to my singing, it's terrible.)
