View Full Version : Where do you keep your Ukes?

I have seen the hangers but would they be suitable for the long term?

Mine are either in their cases or in my hands.

As long as you keep the room in which you store them at a proper humidity, a hanger or a stand is just fine, unless of course you have kids or dogs. I've even heard the argument that they are better because you're more likely to see long term problems developing if the uke is visable as opposed to in a case all day.

I'm considering building a few hangers this weekend, since we have a full humidifier for the piano room anyways

The nice thing about Fleas and Flukes (I have one of each) is that you just stand 'em up wherever you want them. I've pretty much always got one within arm's reach!

They only go into their gigbags if I'm traveling - the rest of the time, they're on whatever table is nearest to me.

I have 14 hanging in the humidity controles music room. The other 4 are in the living room where I can reach them from my practice chair. Doug

They are all on the wall in my home office -- on Hawaiian themed wall hangers (a pineapple, a honu turtle, a whale hook, and a trio of plumerias). And even cooler, they are made by UU member Toucan Mango!

I like how everyone talks about humidity. I play ukulele in 30 degree weather majority of the time ahaha It's not getting that good outside either.

I usually keep mine within arms reach, like on my table or on my bed somewhere.

One should always make sure that the ukes/any instrument is NEVER hung on an exterior wall. It makes it tricky if you have them in a room where three of the four walls are exterior. When I'm not playing my uke, it goes right back into the case.

My fantasy is to have one of those high-end cabinets with glass doors to hang and show off my ukuleles. However, I'd first have to win the Lottery. My cases will have to do until then.

I've seen an antique gun cabinet coverted into a guitar showcase. Looked awesome.

I would never wall hang mine. Besides humidification and dust issues, ambient light (even if it's not direct sunlight) can affect the finish over time. As mentioned, kids, pets, or even an inclination to be a klutz after a couple glasses of vino or a few brewskies can all have deleterious effects.

We have an 18-year-old cat who still likes to go bonkers jumping at walls. I don't want to give her any targets to aim for. :D

Wonderful display of some very special ukes. Hangers are great too. Nicely done.

Oh, I keep my KoAloha in the case next to my practice chair. The Pono is hanging on the wall on a guitar hanger (not the best fit).

I only have one uke at the moment... still waiting on that KPK and no idea when it will get here... ahem... I keep all my instruments in my bedroom where they won't get knocked over or mauled. Uke is leaning up against guitar amp. Electric solid body and Seagull acoustic sitting on guitar stands, bass in a gigbag leaned up against the wall. Fiddle is on a small instrument stand at Jimi's house, next to his Halekoa, which is also on a small instrument stand.

Mostly same as that, although in the evenings I do keep a fiddle, a uke and a mandolin propped up against the bookcase beside my seat. I'm constantly noodling my way around them. At the end of the evening they mostly go back into cases.

i keep mine out on hangers, kinda treat them as decoration when they're not being used. plus, ukes look so nice most of the time that putting mthem in a box doesn't seem right. i treat them as paintings for my room!!

I've paid for the case and the instrument, so I use the one to protect the other, otherwise my cats love to sleep in a case. No humidity control here other then windows, curtains, and fans for summer. Winter = dry and litl humidifiers work fine.

A uke in every room within easy reach. One on my desk. One beside my bed. Four around my reading chair. One standing on the left side of the couch, one tied to the wall on the right side of the couch. One in my car and one at my office. And a plastic Flamingo in the bathroom for super convenient access. Obviously I am not married.

Mine sits against the wall on top on the chest of drawers in the bedroom. Safe from little hands but not so much from the cat who likes to jump up there when he wants my attention. He doesn't do anything, just jumps up there to torment me.

Mine stays in a padded box locked up in an industrial-strength safe, which is placed in a secure underground vault surrounded by a moat whose entrance is guarded by numerous rabid Rottweilers.

I have one on the wall, and the others are kept in my bookshelves, on top of my books. I will get around to hanging them up eventually, but I keep spending my money on ukuleles instead of on hangers.

Ha! that'd be a surprise to stum a chord only to have lizards spill from the f-holes instead of a pretty assembly of notes.

I keep my ukes in the cases, but sometimes I keep my favorite one (it's a Kala lacewood tenor cutaway) propped up next to my desk so I can grab it if I'm too lazy to get one of the others out of their cases. When my new Fluke comes in the mail, I'm going to stand it up on my desk.

You people have some nice ukes and some nice hangers! :)

My Dolphin just gets kicked around the house. My tenor is either propped up against the bookcase beside my seat in our sitting room, or in its case on an armchair in that same room. Same with mandolin and fiddle. I kind of change between instruments several times each evening.

With two dogs, three cats, and a teenage daughter in the house, I keep mine in the safest place possible... It's well out of the way in it's case on top of my record collection.

I used to keep my ukes in their respective cases, until I realized what a waste of money uke cases are. Why spend all that money on cases when you can just buy more ukes instead? I ditched all my cases. Because you know who buys cases? Goobers! Only goobers dump their cash on something so useless.

I liked Deach's uke trough because it keeps all the ukes at arm's length, but didn't feel like spending the time building something. After all, I could be playing my ukes in that time. So I just cut out the formalities and decided to toss all my ukes and uke-related crap into a big uke pile in the middle of the room. No clumsy furniture, no cases I'll never use. Everything's right there and I can pick it up whenever.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v34/brushfirefairytale/IMG_1421.jpg

After a while, I caved in and bought me one of those Herco humidifiers. Wouldn't want any of my ukes to crack.

Should I put the humidifier somewhere in the middle of the pile to maximize its effectiveness?

I'm not allowed to keep them in a big uke pile anymore, so I built a cheap and easy hanger, much like the Aldrine's.
