Hi,

Just wondering... I am looking around for a new Uke and saw the Ohana http://www.ohana-music.com/concert.html and then saw the Makai, http://www.majormusicsupply.com/majormusicsupply.com/LC-150D.html. The wood, tuners and saddle are the same materials, the only difference seems to be the price, headstock and finger protector on the Makai. How can two companies have virtually the same unusual design? Are they really the same company?

Same factory in China, I'd guess. That's not to say it's a bad thing.

Hi, I was told by a reputable dealer that Ohana and Makai are two brands of one company. I'm not sure if one aquired the other but they are related.

They do have different head stock designs and mine has the fin shaped finger guard. Compared to my wife's KK, the Makai is brighter sounding but doesn't play as smooth or rich. I still love it though, and got it for a steal...

Hiya Audrey, Ohana and Makai are two separate companies. Ohana is based in Long Beach California and Makai is up in San Francisco California.
