View Full Version : String Ends Keep Poking Me!

The way the strings are bound to the bridge on my new Kala ukulele they are all bound together and cut off at the top of the bridge. Unfortunately they tend to catch on my wrist, or on the sleeve of my jacket, as I strum. Is there a reason why they are not bound at the bottom?

Here is a picture:

Nope, no reason. It just seems to be the comfortable way for right handed people to wrap 'em. Sometimes I wrap my loops the other way so the pokey end is at the bottom, but I usually forget until I get a scratch from the protruding end. Occasionally I have some going one way and some the other... It all works and holds tuning perfectly well.

I go in with a pair of fingernail clippers or very fine scissors and clip back the offending strings.

looks pretty standard to me. Maybe you can bend the very ends a little so they point downward.
