Hi All- I'll be installing a strap button shortly on a uke that has a strip of tortise shell (fake) running across the bottom of the uke from binding to binding.

Anything unusual I should know about the drilling, or about the strength of the plastic for holding the strap button?

I'm guessing the strip is just there for decoration, not structural support. You'll be drilling through this into the tail block and the block will be what holds the strap button.

I'd drill at a relatively slow speed so you don't "burn" or melt the plastic. I use what's called a pin vise that can hold a small drill bit that I use for delicate hand work.

Yes, I had not thought about the possible burning, and the need to go slowly.

That's why I asked here!
