Slack Key Ukulele

Assuming standard GCEA tuning
Tune your first string "A" down to "G".
You now have two open "G's", strum the open strings you have a "C" chord.
Learn where the rest of the chords are and you are all set.
Good luch and have fun.

There are a lot of different tunings for slack key. GCEG is definitely the easiest to get to, though it's not a very common tuning.

I had my baritone tuned to DGBD, or Taro Patch (Gmaj), but didn't get into it much.

Since you're tuning away from traditional ukulele, many of the slack key guitar resources become relevant.

Yes, there are many slack key tunings, but
I believe DGBD is the same GCEG are the same relative tunings.
If you tuned a guitar in open G it would be DGDGBD put a capo at the fifth and you have GCGCEG.

Very true. Slack key is all about pick and barre.
Wasn't thinking, but then it's been a while since a goofed around with it.
When I was, I had been thinking of getting one of those slide guitar rings.
Ever try one?

The bon iver song skinny love is tabbed out for ukulele in gceg, if your looking for something to play, it's truly a great song.

Does any one Know how to play Slack Key On the ukulele??

Uncle Led is the best I know of who plays in this style. There isn't a lot out there. The main thing is to learn vamps and runs and stick them around the melody. Almost all of the slack key guitarists play 'ukulele, so if you get a chance pick their brains.

David Heaukulani's Ukulele Slack Key is available to download here for US$5.00.

This is a PDF file that cannot be printed.

It gives links to videos that, unhappily, don't have a very good sound.

Enjoy.
