View Full Version : I passed my ordination interview!

Those of you who follow me on Facebook or Twitter already know this, but I have just cleared a major career hurdle. I met with four representatives who interviewed me rigorously regarding full ordination as a pastor in my denomination and I passed!

Now the full body of the Board of Ordained Ministry gets to vote, which is almost always a rubber-stamp procedure, and I am on track to be ordained at our Annual Conference which, unfortunately, takes place at the same time as UWC.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled discussion of tonewoods, strings, and industry-bashing.

I knew you would, Willie...you're one of the good guys. (and this comes from a dyed-in-the-wool atheist)

Great news! Congrats! I urge you to blow it off and come to UWC. They'll still take you afterward. We won't show them any of the tapes! :)

I have to go with Alan on this one. The church is about forgiving right?

They have a point. Sometimes it's easier to get forgiveness than permission.

Congrats Will. Now you can officially give communion right?

After June 4th I will be able to serve communion and baptism outside of my local ministry - which means church camps, retreats, other churches, at the hospital or nursing home with people who aren't members of my parish, etc.

The UMC is not forgiving when it comes to missing one's ordination service. Ordination takes place at Annual Conference within the collected body of the Conference - and ONLY then. A few years ago one fellow had met all of his ordination requirements and was good to go until he had emergency surgery at the same time as Annual Conference, so he had to wait until the following year to be ordained.

In other words, blowing it off is not an option.

I really appreciate all the well wishes and congrats. Thank you much.
