As many of you know, I write for an acoustic guitar magazine, and as such, I have to talk about woods and their characteristics a lot. I've always used this site as a reference if uncertain:

http://www.pantheonguitars.com/tonewoods.htm

And it's great, but I've just revisited the site of McPherson Guitars, who make the best instruments I've ever played, and they've added the most comprehensive tonewood section I've ever seen. If you go to their site, and select the menu, you'll find the "woods" section near the top. Sadly they don't make ukes, but if they did, I'd mortgage my soul to have one!

Nice one, Sam. Thanks for posting. :)

I'm just preparing to build a mandolin, so the info could be handy!

wow what an awesome site, I'm just sitting on the frontpage listening to the music.. nice...

Oh dude, those guitars are just on another level. Literally a whole different proposition to anything else I've ever reviewed (as they should be for $3-6000!). I did a few videos with the Redwood topped bodied one, including this. It's an amazing guitar

Thanks so much for both of these links...very helpful. I'm in search of the perfect woods for a custom soprano for my 60th birthday (4 years off, so I can save$$)...and I will savor this for all 4 of those years!

What a really nice website! I have never seen those guitars before. And very nice coverage on the tone woods. Thanks for the link.
