Hi guys, I have moved to the Uke world from many years of playing the guitar - loving the uke.

I am used to changing strings (steel for the guitar) when they get tired / dirty etc - but with nylon strings on the uke, I guess they must last longer?

Can anyone give me advice on how often to change strings?

Thanks.

David

When to change strings is a very subjective thing. Some folks change at a certain time interval. Some wait until they hear a "deadness" in one or more strings. Some wait until a string actually breaks. Some change very frequently, searching for just the right sound from a new brand of strings.

I've read that "wound" uke strings wear very quickly at the frets; plain strings, not as much. Heavier, thicker strings may last longer than very light guage ones.

I have a set of Aquilas on my concert that are just over a year old. They sound as good to my ear as they did new, so I'm in no hurry to change them. I have a spare set on hand for when the time comes....
