Wound G Lost Sustain

Can a string "go bad"?
New set of Aquilas, and the Wound G seems to have half the sustain it used to just a week ago.
I've only played it a handful of times since putting it on. I don't think it could be the bridge or anything else since the other strings are OK.

I like your name! Strings can have a lot of variance, even premium brands like Aquila and Worth. There is a chance that you received a slightly off string out of the package. If I remember correctly, Aquilas come with a slightly thinner wound "g", wrapped in copper or brass. I find them to be less boomy than the silver wound, so maybe a small drop in sustain is more noticeable.
