Meisel Tuner Hard on Battery?

I have a Meisel clip-on tuner, model MCT-8L, that uses up batteries much faster than the similar Intelli IMT-500. I prefer the Meisel tuner in that it has a faster response time and is somewhat physically smaller, but the thing is going to break me up buying batteries. I don't know if this is characteristic of the Meisel or if this one has a bit wrong with it. Can anyone shed some light?...

I've only changed batteries on mine twice in almost 2 years with the same model. I'm pretty conservative with it, though; I tune fairly quickly and then immediately turn it off.

Maybe then I do have a bad one...
