This initial post pertains to a sale that was on Thursday March 25, and is no more. But every rare now and then, one of these deals surfaces. It was fun shopping with my fellow enthusiasts. Now we can compare notes on our new beaters as they arrive.

The first two lightning deals on Amazon today are a Lanikai ukulele for 34.99 and a polyfoam case for 19.99.

Those of you looking for a starter uke for someone else, a Lanikai concert was my husband's ukulele gateway drug (and thus mine) and it remains a quality instrument for the price.

First deal is starting in an hour and a half.

I wonder which one it is

Probably the LU-11, which is only a few dollars more than that price. I'd be impressed/surprised if it would be the LU-21.
But going by the reviews there it seems that even the LU-11 is strung with Aquilas.

If it's a LU-21, i'm definitely buying 1. Or 2.

Oh, and don't forget to click the "Free Super-Saver Shipping" button when you order it. You'll save several dollars, and (in my experience at least) they still ship it quickly. You might have to wait an extra day or two, tops.

JJ, waiting for the case...

+1 on Super saver shipping. I've ordered a lot from Amazon, no really big difference in speed

What a great deal! As much as I think I should jump on this, I'm holding off. It wouldn't be worth the trouble it would cause at home.... ;)

Yes, it's a problem.

You obviously need three more. A Monday uke, a Tuesday uke, a Wednesday uke...

I say jump on this deal. They list for $90. Amazon is selling it for $35, so you're saving $55.

So you save $55, minus the $35 you pay for the uke... why, it's like they're paying you $20 to get this ukulele!

Well, I said that, because I did jump on it. I bought one, and that is now my 4th in a week.. But one, I think I am gonna put on Ebay anyway. My cheapie Kola I did allot of work on and made it a fairly nice playing Uke. I took the bridge and nut off, filed them and lowered the action substancially, upgraded to Ping geared tuners, and Aqulias. Much nicer playing that it was out of the box. I may put that one on Ebay and recoup the $35 for the Amazon deal..

In for one. Damn, I'm a sucker. Will probably set this aside for a give away. I gave away the first two cheapies I had. One to my youngest son and one to my niece. They are both enjoying their ukes.

That's a ridiculous price. The Lanikai LU-21 is identical to my first ever uke, the Hudson HUK-S (http://www.cranesmusicstore.com/hudsonalohaserieshukssopranoukulele-p-733.html) and I still think that with Aquilas it throws out a lovely crisp sound. My Hudson has the Lanikai bridge too and is *exactly* like the Lanikai, but cost nearer $100 (69) in the UK from Crane's.

Thanks! I ordered my LU-21 uke... but wasn't able to find the case.

Does the case come up as a separate deal later in the day? Or did I already miss it?

If the case deal is already over, could anyone suggest to me the least expensive source for a case that would provide some degree of protection (polyfoam sounds about right)? I have 2 soprano ukes and would like to be able to bring them along on family car trips without scratches/dents.

Just got a case too.. But, kinda irritates me, because I JUST ordered that case from Amazon for my Ohana a few days ago. But oh well. Just got another at the deal price too for the LU-21. This one is probably gonna be my daughters though. Me and her been playing Dualing Ukes the past couple days and having fun with it. Her on the Aucustic guitar and me on the Uke. I think she will like her own anyway. Thanks for the tip, even though the wife is gonna shoot me... hahha

I'm darn proud of myself this morning for being able to resist this UAS.

This was a smokin' deal on a starter uke and case, and I didn't pull the trigger! Woo-hoo! Maybe there's hope....

Congrats to all of you who were able to take advantage of this rare opportunity. Enjoy those new ukes!

I managed to resist as well. Although I will admit I was really, really tempted...

I'm feeling very strong, I resisted too...well honestly I was too late on the uke! and what good is a case without a uke? I really need another soprano like a hole in the head anyway, but it was a good deal.

I didn't get to take advantage of the case, which was a good deal. But I tell myself I have plenty of soprano cases. Just not as sturdy.

As for the LU-21, plain enough for me to pimp it, which I seriously enjoy doing. Or maybe this'll be the one that gets a pickup installed. March 30th.

I told my husband there was an ukulele lightning deal. He responded with a resigned, "When does it get here?"

Speaking of Pimpin Ukes. Here is my throw down Uke. I just got the deal on Amazon, so this one will end up on Ebay when done. I might do the LU-21 like it when it gets here. But this one was my 1st student uke. It had a horrible action that almost turned me off to Ukes. I filed the nut and bridge lowering the action consisderabley, intalled much better Ping geared tuners, and now took it back down for it's new duds. It actually plays very nice now. It's name is "Skie"...

I stuck a picture of "Skie" earlier in this thread. Here she is done, and ready to jam. What it is, and what I done.

Kona Student Uke.
Replaced those horrible friction tuners it had with Ping geared tuners.
Removed and carefully filed the nut and bridge to lower the action considerably. Now it is a joy to play instead of the painful finger shredding experience it was.
Repalced the strings with Aquila Nylguts.
Had fun and painted it in a Sky theme with enamel.

Cool fun little Uke now.

To tie it in with this thread. The Amazon deal is what caused it. I bought the Amazon Uke, so I rebuilt this one.

Listed it on Ebay starting at a buck today. Hopefully it will pay for the Lanikai LU-21.

Admirable piece of work, Tudorp. I'm keeping an eye on your auction hoping it does well because I'm thinking of customizing ukes for sale at some point.

Got mine. Decent little uke, even better considering the price. Let's see how long it takes to get the strings stretched out.

Tudorp
03-26-2010, 09:02 AM
That was just yesterday, and you got it already? I got my case in that I ordered several days ago (paid $40 for it, why I was pissed it showed up for $19 on that deal, lol). But it still shows the Lanikai and the other case "shipping soon" as of now.

Cool. I noticed I have a bid already on "Skie" at .99 cents.. I hope she does better than that, lol.. But I always let the bidders set their prices so I start them like that with no reserve. Hope it at least pays for the Lanikai.

I have been looking for a case for my MK-S. It doesn't make much sense to spend almost as much for a case that I spent on the uke so I've been looking pretty hard. I ordered one of these cases and can't wait to get it!
