Hi all,

Can anyone suggest any good softwares, preferrable shareware, that allows someone to enter, save, and print Chords and Tabs? I would like to try and figure out some songs and write it down as I go. Please let me know.

thank you in advance.

I use PowerTab for tab, and Songsheet Generator for chords/lyrics.

Songsheet Generator allows you to create custom chord libraries/definitions and prints the chord forms at the end of each song. It can take a while to build a comprehensive library of chord forms (I recommend you backup the chord definition file! It's a pain if you computer crashes and you loose it!) but it works well.

I build my songs from scratch in CorelDraw. I have made templates for chord diagrams to make it easier.

Tuxguitar:

You can change the default number of strings and tunings for whatever string instrument you want

Tuxguitar can import these file types:
old Guitar Pro (.gtp) Guitar Pro 3 (.gp3) Guitar Pro 4 (.gp4) Guitar Pro 5 (.gp5) PowerTab (.ptb) TableEdit (.tef) and MIDI (mid)

There are lots of possibilities such as:
Importing a .tef file written for guitar and change the string tuning in the program for a uke. The guitar tabs and chords will then be converted to ukulele.
or opening up a midi file to generate a tab file.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted a similar tool. I couldn't find one, so wrote one.

You can key a tune in on a piano keyboard, and the finger positions will show on the uke tab below. A friend said I should make it available, so the result is pluckinukes. It currently only has GCEA tuning, but I may change that if there is a demand.

Alternative finger positions are shown and can be selected as well as labels above and below the note.

There is also a transpose feature to move it up or down a semitone at a time.

I hope it is of some use :)

Thanks a lot pluckinukes for your work, I have just tried your generator to tab an intro and without even looking at the tutorial or help, I was able to tab it in a few minutes. Very easy to use and well done.
Regards
Michel

Thank you Pluckinukes! This is something I know I will use. Great work and many thanks for sharing it with us.

LilyPond is opensource software for music notation, it has automatic Ukulele tabs and frets and chords and whatever you want. Supports all operating systems, and can even use the lilybin.com service to jot stuff online without installing anything.

See an example of something I am working on right now -
