Are Kala bridges glued or screwed on (or both?). I thought bridges were only glued on, but Kala bridges have what appears to be dowels covering possible screws.

These dowels wouldn't make sense if there were no screws to cover. BTW: even Koaloha used to screw their bridges down. See here...

I read a lot of criticisms of Kala bridges...
...so it is not because of the screws, but their appearance?

I've heard about problems with their bridge inlays, but maybe these bridge screws are an outcome of the bridge problems you mentioned.

Paul, what were the complaints you read about Kala bridges?

Nothing specific.... just stuff like "I like everything about the Kala except for the bridge".
They were in dead threads when I was researching some ukes, so I didn't post follow-up questions.

As I already mentioned in another thread: what I didn't like was the string spacing on the bridge, so I made a new bone inlay and enhanced the spring spacing to the spacing I took from my KTS-4. Very comfy picking with that little more space between the strings.
