In the last couple of years, bands that picked-up the ukulele include:

Paul McCarney
Noah and the Whale
Rilo Kiley
Beirut
Amanda Palmer (of Dresden Dolls)

I wonder how many will show-up this year? I remember a few years ago, when I kept running into accordions, thinking it was a conspiracy. I will definitely sport my UU shirt this year. Look for it!

Anyone going?

Tough rules:

http://www.coachella.com/event/rules-faq

NO Instruments
(especially drums!!!)

I bring my uke to festivals and jam. Does that rule apply to ukes? Ric

NO Instruments... Does that rule apply to ukes?

I'm pretty sure a ukulele is an instrument. At least that's what I've been lead to believe by this community!

There's plenty of jamming outside the venue, in the campgrounds and parking areas.

I am not going to miss the drum circle, AT ALL.

So... Is anyone going?

My suspicions of the accordion conspiracy were correct. In today's Desert Sun there was an article about Nora Kirkpatrick of the band Edward Sharp & The Magnetic Zeros that had a sidebar (http://www.mydesert.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=20104100342) (below the photos) to the article of some of their squeeze-box toting brethren.

I did find one ukulele performance at Coachella last year by Amanda Palmer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Duk2Q1rkj00&feature=channel) singing "Creep" (warning: she drops the F-bomb a few times). Gots to be the largest uke sign-along ever.

DISCLOSER: I also play accordion.
