It dont get to see many different types of ukes, but it appears that Ko'olau has revamped Pono's design to make it lighter and more resonant.

anyone played these? and how do they fair in comparison...somewhere between the imports and high end production models?

MGM has a shipment in of their new mahogany and maple ukuleles. He has a couple soundclips on YouTube. Maybe he can chime in comparing the old stock versus new.

They are very well made , come with a newly designed case and sound awesome. The finish is beautiful and the choice in tonewoods in the Pro classic series are fantastic. Great overall improvement from Ko'olau. The new string choices are also a plus and they have a new Oahu tuner. Bottom line is all from the 2010 Pono lineup impress me.:D

The older ones are nice (DeG has one and it is stunning) but then the newer older ones came out (think spalted mango and ohai). Dull sounding. The newest Ponos are a step and above the previous ones. Sound nice, well made, and much lighter. I'd get a Mele because of brand loyalty before another Pono but way better than that last bunch from Java.
