On my CBU I shot it first with a light coat of shellac (bullzeye spraycan - no wax) and let it dry then shot it with stewmac waterbase "lacquer". It turned out a really nice warm honey color on the spanish cedar and spruce.
So my question is, who else does this and what tips do you have reguarding shellac spit coats.

Oh yeah, what do you think about budweiser beer can hats?

Vic, I don't know about the hats but we always start with shellac - except when we're doing an oil finish. Excellent sealer and so far we've only had one or two cases where the "lacquer" didn't do well on top (although I believe that may have just been some crappy acrylic stuff that looks awful no matter what you put it on). We don't use spray-on shellac, however - just good old french polish methods.

I shellac everything as a sealer coat these days. If anything its a quick and easy way to see if you have any sanding boo-boos
I dunno about the spray type for color though. Seems like most of the pre-made stuff is pretty blonde
